With the ship set to debut at the end of April, Carnival has revealed that longtime guest favorites Lee Mason and Katie Eastham will be the ship’s cruise and entertainment directors, respectively.

Chris Nelson, vice president of entertainment for Carnival, says that the people in these positions “have to have more energy than all of our guests combined and, as you can imagine, that’s hard to come by!” But he adds that “within seconds of talking to” Lee and Katie, “you can feel their enthusiasm and see their expertise. We can’t wait to watch this powerhouse duo bring the new Carnival Radiance to life!”

Despite only having joined Carnival in 2016, Mason is familiar to a lot of guests.

After all, he has since served as cruise director on no fewer than eight different ships. His most recent gig was aboard the Carnival Splendor in Australia.

The Brit also gained a bit of notoriety — in the best sense possible — by raising $40,000 in a single Groove For St. Jude event in 2019, the most collected during that year.

Eastham, meanwhile, is also a native of England, and she’s been with the company since 2012. During that time, she’s worked on 12 different ships as an entertainment director.

The highest praise one can probably give her is that she has helped groom some of the company’s newer entertainment directors, who are putting everything they’ve learned under her tutelage to good use.

When the erstwhile Carnival Victory emerges from an extended drydock as the Carnival Radiance, she will become the third in the line’s Sunshine class. The other two? The Carnival Sunshine and the Carnival Sunrise, each of which underwent similar transformations.

The refurbishment will see Carnival Radiance receiving a slew of upgrades and new venues, including the ever-popular Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, as well as Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse.

The ship will also host the very first Big Chicken at sea, a restaurant created by CFO (that’s Chief Fun Officer) Shaquille O’Neal.

Radiance will have her inaugural sailing on April 29. That 10-day trip will launch a summer schedule of 9- and 12-day sailings, after which the ship will reposition to New York City for the summer, followed by trips out of Norfolk, Port Canaveral and Galveston.
