With what can be viewed as a promising signal, Carnival Cruise Line officer Captain Vittorio and several crew members have been signed back onto Carnival Spirit and are now awaiting orders as to what is next.

Last week, the captain shared this with Facebook followers: “Going back to Carnival Spirit during this unprecedented time is definitely different. I have been there throughout my career several times collecting memories and visiting beautiful places.”
Two days later he posted, “On the way to board Carnival Spirit our home away from home for the next few months.”

Captain Vittorio, was previously the master of Carnival Vista, including during its groundbreaking floating dry dock in 2019. His pictures detail crew members being brought to Carnival Spirit in a water shuttle and from the ship.

Carnival Spirit has been sailing from Sydney since 2012, and when cruising resumes will sail three to 15-night voyages from Brisbane, Australia. Spirit is Carnival Cruise Line’s first ship to ever sail from the capital of Queensland.

In late 2019, Carnival Splendor left the west coast of the United States and underwent a massive dry dock in Singapore before repositioning Down Under.
Like the United States, Australia also has a cruise ship ban, which is currently in place until December 27. The Australian Health Principal Protection Committee, equivalent to the CDC in the United States, said that they continue to review the ban and can extend it if they see the need to.
Late Sunday night, Carnival Horizon arrived in PortMiami to start recrewing the vessel and preparing for a series of simulated voyages that are being required under the Conditional Sail Order.

In the United States, Carnival has suspended sailings through at least January 2021 and will resume cruising with a phased-in return.
