Carnival Sunshine Gets A New Year-Round Home
One of the most popular ships in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, the Carnival Sunshine, has a new home in Charleston, South Carolina. From there, she’ll do a wide variety of sailings to exciting ports… including the first-ever voyages from Charleston to Cuba.
What Itineraries Carnival Sunshine Will Be Sailing
“Carnival launched Charleston’s first year-round program nearly a decade ago,” said Terry Thornton, senior vice president of nautical and port operations for the cruise line, “and we’re delighted to homeport Carnival Sunshine, which offers our guests so many wonderful onboard features and amenities [here].”
To mark the occasion, Carnival hosted a luncheon for travel advisors, local officials and various VIPS. During the event, a donation was made to One80 Place, a homeless assistance shelter the company has long supported. Over the years, Charleston-based ships have donated everything from mattresses and chairs to dishes and assorted other items.
From Charleston, the Sunshine will sail a variety of four- and five-day sailings to the Bahamas; six- and seven-day trips to Bermuda and the Caribbean; and the first-ever Cuba cruises out of the area, which will include visits to Havana. Those looking for something a bit longer will enjoy 10- and 11-day Carnival Journeys trips to the Caribbean, which offer longer port visits and various opportunities to really get to know more about the places visited. (And let’s not forget the very popular Throwback Sea Days, during which the ship goes through a temporary time warp and pretty much anything can happen!)
About The Carnival Sunshine
Originally launched as the Carnival Destiny before undergoing a massive transformation, the Carnival Sunshine has emerged as a favorite among many cruisers. One reason? It’s unique three-level Serenity deck, including the only waterfall in the entire fleet! There are over 500 balcony staterooms on board as well as nearly 50 suites. Food-wise, the ship features such popular JiJi Asian Kitchen, Cucina del Capitano, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and, of course, Guy’s Burger Joint.
With Sunshine now sailing out of Charleston, the Carnival Ecstasy has relocated to Jacksonville. From there, she’ll do four- to seven-day sailings to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. And Carnival Elation, which had previously been based in Jacksonville, will now move to Port Canaveral to do four- and five-day Caribbean/Bahamas trips.
