How to Make Sure Your Cruise Excursion Runs Smoothly
A cruise excursion can be an exciting and interesting part of any cruise. You get to see the local sights and participate in enjoyable activities. However, people sometimes have trouble taking pleasure in the fun of the excitations because they have not prepared properly. Others have their trips ruined by careless actions while on shore. There are some things you can do to help your excursions run smoothly.
Gather What You Need
It is always annoying when you get off the ship and find that you have forgotten something important. You will do best if you think out what you will need for any given shore excursion. Sunscreen is almost always needed, no matter what the outing. Then, you will have to think about appropriate clothing for the activity.
Many people get out and suddenly remember that they have forgotten their cameras. You will want a video record of your trip. Bring your camera or camcorder and if it is appropriate, an underwater camera is a great thing to have. Also make sure you have whatever you need for your camera – film for a 35mm or batteries for a digital camera.
The cruise lines may also supply you with items for your excursion. For a beach excursion, a towel may be offered. For snorkeling, the snorkeling gear plus a lifejacket will be available, either onboard or when you get off the ship. The ship may provide a box lunch for some cruise excursion. Make sure you have yours.
American money is often acceptable. In this case, you can usually barter with locales in your own currency without having to do complicated calculations to figure out what you are paying. Be aware that venders may try to get you to pay more by claiming that they do not have the right change. The best way to combat this is to bring plenty of five and one dollar bills.
If local currency is required, you can get it through the purser's office, but you need to know the rate of exchange. If the US dollar is worth 25 of their bills, you know that 250 in their bills amount to five US dollars, and so on. Knowing can keep you from getting ripped off. If the rate of exchange is not so easy, you might want to carry a calculator.
Stay With Your Group
There may be times on your cruise excursion where you could wander off from the group and go your own way. Sometimes this is a part of the outing, but be sure to get back with the group at the appointed time. Meet the group on time and be extra careful to be back on the ship before its departure time. Missing the ship could make for one of the worst adventures you could imagine.
If you are prepared and stay with your group, your cruise excursion should go off without a hitch. Take the time and do what you need to when the time comes. You will have a much better time.
