Punta Sur in Cozumel
Punta Sur ecological Beach Park also known as Faro Celerain Eco Park is a must go while on a vacation or a one day pass in Cozumel. Sitting on over 2500 acres of land on the south strip of Cozumel, it is the largest ecological reserve in Cozumel Island. It is a home to a variety of indigenous flora and fauna, exotic birds, crocodiles and sea turtles. Inside the park you will also find the famous Mayan ruins and the Faro Celerain Lighthouse which hosts historical facts and archaeological artefacts about the maritime. Punta Sur also hosts the calm waters of the Laguna Colombia where one can swim, dive and snorkel in. It is a great place for families and should really be on your to-go list while in Cozumel.
For cruise ships passengers, Punta Sur makes for a great shore excursion in Cozumel. If you accessed the island through the Punta Langosta pier, the park has transportation option. From the pier, one will walk to Barracuda Hotel which is just 6 minutes south of the pier. They will be picked by a tour guide and be taken to the park. If your ship docked at the International Pier, and The Puerta Maya Pier, the park doesn’t offer transportation options but one can easily access the park by a 6-minute taxi drive which you will get just outside the piers. The taxi ride will cost you approximately $ 5.00 USD. If you are there on long vacations, you can opt to rent a jeep which you will use in your stay while there and can use to access the park.
Punta Sur Eco Park is always in operation from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm local time. For those with day pass in Cozumel and to be picked by tour guides, pick up time is 10 am local time at the pick-up point. The shore excursion in Cozumel lasts approximately 5 hours.

Although the park doesn’t offer free entrance, the $ 14.00 USD adult and $ 8.00 USD child charged as entrance fee is worth it. Regardless of the entrance fee, one will be required to pay extra fees to access other facilities once inside the pack. For those with day pass in Cozumel, one can book from several packages which mostly include, an English speaking tour guide, transportation to and from the park, all the park entrance fees, light snack, lunch, snorkelling equipment, pontoon boat ride, drinks and museum access at very pocket friendly prices.
